Who am I ?

I have 35 years of business experience, mostly as an entrepreneur. I like to start things; projects, businesses, or new initiatives within organizations.  I have experienced some success in my career and business ventures, but my greatest success has been in choosing a life that fits me, my quirks and the lifestyle I desire. My path might not have appealed to most people, but then it shouldn't.  Not every step has been easy, but for the most part, they have been steps chosen by me. I derive satisfaction from that.

Now, I want to help others do the same. For the past 15 years I have used the StrengthsFinder Assessment to help people find, or redefine, their calling . I am certified by the Gallup Company as a "Strengths Coach". I have used strengths assessment even in my parenting. All of my children have gone through the process.

From my business experience, and through my own personal strengths assessment, I have learned what I do well.  I love to gather information, assess it, and use it to generate new ideas and strategies for success.  I also enjoy the role of advocate, advisor, and encourager.

I believe success is not measured by dollars or public acclaim, but by the satisfaction and ease of accomplishment. People are energized, and more likely to succeed when their interests, passions, and talents are aligned in an action plan.  My own successes have flowed from such alignment.

I earned a business degree from the University of Texas in Austin. I have been active in the oil and gas, renewable energy, education, and wine industries. I have also served on boards of directors and as executive director of various non-profit organizations and minsitries. Ann and I have been married for 34 years and have three adult children.

That's enough about me, let's talk about you.

Assessment

The Gallup company is a research-based management consulting company. They partnered with Donald Clifton in 2001 to offer an “assessment of strengths” based upon Dr. Clifton’s decades-long research on what made people successful. To date over 15 million people have taken the online StrengthsFinder Assessment.

The Assessment is only the beginning, however, as many people who have taken the test have not incorporated the benefits of the information into their life. Gallup has begun training strengths coaches to help people better understand and use the assessment to improve their lives.

I find the StrengthsFinder Assessment beneficial in that it breaks down the individual’s strengths along 34 themes, and then provides a customized report on the person’s top 5 themes.  It only takes 30 minutes to complete the online test.
